The Valley Community Safety Audit program is part of the Valley Community Safety Committee’s management plan to manage safety concerns in the Valley.
NEXT SAFETY AUDIT: 2am – 3.30am Sunday 30 March 2008 in the Valley Malls Area
It is no coincidence this is timed to check out what happens during the time of the 3am lock out of venues – this is an important aspect of maintaining and improving the Management plan for the area.
PAST SAFETY AUDITS DATES: 7pm - Tuesday 28 November 2006 1am - Sunday 27 May 07 8am - 27 November 2007
OBJECTIVE OF THE OF THE VALLEY SAFETY AUDITS:
Look at safety and perception issues relating to the public space in the Valley Entertainment Precinct as varying times of the day to see how the area can be improved if necessary.
Matters concerning public safety are to be checked include: lighting, paving, public seating & telephones, garden beds, walkways to public transport including bus, train and taxis, fencing & directional signage, traffic, bins and public space.
GENERAL PROCEDURE
Fortitude Valley Police do a 30 minute briefing before commencement of the safety audits for those registered to participate and also lead each of the various groups that are coordinated to look at the various areas. All congregate back at the Valley Chamber of Commerce Boardroom for a debriefing session and provide copy of recorded notes about the inspection.
Brisbane City Council then coordinate the works that are required to be undertaken ie install of 40klm speed signs in the precinct, repair footpaths etc and report back in writing back to the Valley Community Safety Group. The Valley Chamber works with the local community to make sure the people attend who have issues, invites the politicians and media to attend as required.
It is a great result of a cooperative approach to community safety!
