Safety concerns, perception and reality in the Fortitude Valley has been drawing major media and public speculation for the past two decades and still is a hot issue today.
In 2000 The VALLEY COMMUNITY SAFETY GROUP WAS FORMED
Bringing together residents, The Valley Chamber of Commerce, business owners, many community groups and services, Queensland Police Service (Fortitude Valley Police) many Qld State Government departments & Brisbane City Council
Today, the mix of people attending the monthly meetings that are now coordinated by the Valley Chamber of Commerce and the meetings are always well attended
The Fortitude Valley Police provide an overview of crime activity for the previous month and advise of any trends.
Members of the community are welcome to attend if they have any concerns about safety and are welcome to express their views and the verbal interchange often results in positive outcomes for moving forward to resolve safety issues with the Valley Entertainment Precinct and beyond to include the 4006 postcode.
Meeting dates: 2nd Thursday of each month
The committee has had many success and none more than the establishment of Valley Safety Audits program conducted in partnership with the Queensland Police Service, Brisbane City Council
